The training will be led by Wei-Jen Huang, Ph.D.,
a faculty member at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine

Workshop Description:         Download Flyer

Based on his global outreach experiences, Dr. Huang will share how he disseminates psychoeducation and relationship enhancement skills integrated from active ingredients of various empirically supported psychotherapy approaches to over 100,000 Asian families. Through lectures, experiential exercises and video examples Dr. Huang will explain the key components of his 12 session “Journey to Intimacy: Emotional Intelligence and Personal Growth” Relationship Enhancement Curriculum.

Workshop Objectives:

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Apply non-shaming “positive reframing” to engage Asians more effectively into treatment or develop interest in psychoeducation.
  • Identify 3 crucial areas that must be addressed in relationship restoration and enhancement.3
  • Identify user friendly steps for emotional self-regulation and after the fight restoration conversation which has been applied by a large number of Asians to enhance their interpersonal and intimate relationships.

About Dr. Wei-Jen Huang:

Wei-Jen Huang, Ph.D. is a faculty member at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His mission in life is to serve the under-served Asians who are struggling with emotional pain but normally shy away from mental health services due to cultural stigma, financial difficulty or the lack of trained Asian therapists in their communities.

To achieve this mission, he integrates active ingredients from various empirically supported treatment approaches into a 12 session relationship enhancement curriculum called “Journey to Intimacy: Emotional Intelligence and Personal Growth”.  Through non-shaming, user friendly language and culturally appropriate examples, he tried to disseminate helpful psychological concepts and relationship enhancement techniques to various Asian populations internationally.

So far he has trained over 20,000 Asian professional and paraprofessional counselors in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, France, Qatar, South Africa, Canada and USA to facilitate his 12 session “Journey to Intimacy” relationship enhancement curriculum and disseminated psychoeducation to over 100,000 international Asian families. He has been repeatedly invited by the governments of China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, various Asian organizations and Qatar foundation to provide counseling training and psychoeducation.

He was a 2004 United Nation sponsored International Family Conference Keynote Speaker, 2014 Rotary International Assembly keynote speaker, and the 2016 Singapore government sponsored National Marriage Convention keynote speaker. He is the recipient of the 2013 AACC Diversity Award and the 2015 Northwestern University Distinguished Service Award.

Generations of Northwestern students have been raving about Dr. Huang’s insightful and heartwarming lectures, affectionately referring to him as “Dr. Love.”
