Melba Vasquez and I have updated our free "Therapist's Guide For Preparing a Professional Will" and I've placed the updated version on my web site of free resources.
The guide is intended to help therapists create an individualized professional will that is not only ethically, legally, and clinically sound but also clear, comprehensive, and practical.
The best time to create a professional will is now rather than later. We must prepare for the possibility that something can happen to us—robbing us of our ability to function-- at any time, without warning. And if we decide "not now," making a professional will take its place at the end of that list of things we'll take care of when we get a little free time, that unfilled responsibility may spend its whole life (and ours) growing old on that well-meaning list.
No standardized approach to creating a professional will works with every therapist or situation. But we've organized some steps you may find helpful in thinking through a professional will that fits your individual needs, setting, practice, values, and resources.
The "Therapist's Guide for Preparing a Professional Will" appears on the following unrestricted (i.e., free) web page:
