In addition to the five awards, HPA also announced their first special award for Outstanding and Innovative Achievement. This year the award goes to The Life Foundation for their outstanding achievement in the area of Employee Involvement.
With modest budgets and limited administration, The Life Foundation has managed to blur the distinction between client services and commitment to employees. With equal zeal employees support their clients, each other and the mission of the organization. "Empowerment" is perhaps a pale and inadequate term to describe the passion and commitment of this organization.
Opportunity, responsibility and stewardship go hand in hand as employees are routinely supported in expanding their roles and capabilities. As a result, employees without previous experience find themselves presenting at national conferences, student interns turn down more lucrative offers to compete for the limited number or more modestly remunerated staff positions, and employees spontaneously recruit family and friends to become part of the volunteer staff.
