This 4-hour (4-CE Credits) workshop by Dr. Lucas Morgan will be an interactive and informative presentation on ageism and working with the elderly. Topics addressed will include stereotypes, internalized ageism, and the dehumanization of elders. The presentation will include an experiential component designed to facilitate discussion and allow attendees to examine their own beliefs about aging and elders.

Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify at least 3 ageist myths and biases in contemporary society
- Participants will be able to describe how ageism impacts psychological and other forms of health care
- Participants will be provided with an understanding of internalized ageism and how to challenge it
- Participants will learn key aspects of mental health work with older adults
Dr. Lucas Morgan received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, with a focus on mindfulness-based behavioral therapies for the treatment of anxiety. He returned home to Hawaii for his internship and post-doctoral fellowship at I Ola Lahui Behavioral Health, receiving training in rural and primary care psychology with an emphasis on geropsychology in his fellowship year.
Now a licensed staff psychologist with I Ola Lahui, Lucas develops partnerships with geriatric and elder-care organizations, providing direct mental health services to older adults and training for families and staff caring for elders with dementia. He offers mindfulness based classes in senior homes and adult day care centers, and provides consultation and educational services to senior groups and elder-care workers.
