Aloha Hawaiʻi Psychological Association (HPA) Membership,
My name is Reilynn Yamane, and I am a research assistant under the mentorship of Dr. Brad Nakamura and the Center for Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CCBT) at the University of Hawaiʻi (UH) at Mānoa. I am a new HPA member, and excited to be joining a collective of professionals and academics working to promote and enrich Hawaiʻi’s people and communities.
A group of research assistants from CCBT are hoping to hear from the members of HPA regarding their perceptions on prescriptive privileges for psychologists, also referred to as RxP. We respect and admire HPA’s previous survey initiatives around this topic, and we would like to hopefully expand on your great work by asking additional questions from a cited paper/survey in the literature (Baird, 2007).
Our study is entitled, “Attitudes toward Psychologists’ Prescriptive Authority in Hawai’i,” and was approved by the UH Mānoa Institutional Review Board on March 28, 2023. Participation involves filling out a confidential online survey consisting of 30 questions, and should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Our goals with this study are to survey the attitudes of psychologists and other therapists in Hawaiʻi about their perceptions regarding prescriptive authority for psychologists. We feel very strongly that prescriptive authority for psychologists is an important issue, and are grateful for any opportunity to learn more about the perceptions of our local practicing psychologists and therapists regarding this topic.
